This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Luke 15:20 (ESV)
Today, I am thinking about the power of God’s embrace. No matter where we are on our spiritual journey, His embrace is always there.
This week, I’ve talked a lot about our spiritual growth and our spiritual journey. When I turned to the Scriptures, I focused on Peter’s life because if there is any biblical person who is the face of spiritual transformation, it’s Peter.
As we’ve studied the growth and transformation in Peter’s life, I hope we’ve begun to see and appreciate our growth in our own lives. Even if we don’t though, God certainly does.
Although I have been heavily focusing on Peter’s life, this week has also reminded me of the parable of the prodigal son. In the parable, as you may remember, the son runs off from his father’s house and squanders his inheritance. Then, when he runs out of money and things get bad for him, he decides he wants to return home.
This is a very clear analogy for when we move away from Christ. Yet, the son experiences a change of heart, grows spiritually, and returns to his father, just as we return to Christ.
I started the week talking about falling short, but our definition of falling short is very different from God’s. This is seen clearly in the Scriptures as they state that while the son was still a long distance away, the father ran to his son with an embrace and a kiss. He didn’t feel that his son had fallen short because in the end, he had returned home—just as God rejoices over our growth, even when we think we have fallen short.
Let us cling to those very words from the Scripture: “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.” Luke 15:20 (ESV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, feel the embrace of your Father.
