Our moment to Be still…to Be fed by the Word of God…to Be grateful.
Scripture reference: Matthew 4:11
TRANSCRIPT:
Today I am thinking about how easily I can be overcome by fear when I leave my comfort zone. So, last week, we were talking in essence about leaping from our comfort into our miracle. I will often create a visual. I will envision myself making that leap, air rushing up towards my face. But I quickly realize that the drop was much farther than I thought. And the first thought I have is, “I should never have jumped in the first place.”
I had this thought when I was reading in Matthew four, when Jesus was in the desert being tempted by Satan. We know that Jesus is in the desert for forty days and forty nights with nothing to eat. It’s those times when we think that things can’t get any worse, and then they do. For Jesus, things get worse. It is after this period of not eating for forty days when Satan enters the scene to tempt him. It’s when things go from bad to worse, that we want to throw in the towel, so to speak. Although, this is when we should genuinely stay the course, trusting that we are very close and knowing that we are not alone.
Christ teaches us how to confront temptation. He resists temptation by refusing to give into fear and God meets him in the desert right where he is.
The words that I am comforted by are “Then the devil went away and angels came and cared for Jesus.” Matthew 4:11
Tomorrow, let’s talk about the risk of inaction. Visit bmoments.org and share this reflection because others desire to be inspired.
Today, let’s embrace the free fall and trust God to see us through the landing.
