This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
Today, I am getting honest with myself about how impatient I can become. I’m not talking about impatience when I’m standing in line at the store. I’m talking about impatience towards the goals I’m working towards in my life.
I’m also not talking about a wait of six months or a year. I’m talking about five, six, even seven years and yet things have not materialized on a specific goals. That’s when I can feel like throwing in the towel.
Then I turn to the story of Hannah in the Scriptures. Hannah was in a similar situation as well. She was a barren women. She prayed and prayed to God for a child. One time she was mistaken in the Temple as being drunk, because she was praying so fervently before the Lord.
When the stakes are high, I also feel like throwing in the towel, especially as they mount over time. That was also Hannah’s situation. She was growing older; she was losing status in her community because she had not given birth to a child. Her husband had several wives, of which one taunted her on a regular basis. In the end, though, we see that God prevailed for Hannah.
What I have learned from Hannah’s story is that it’s not taking a long time because it isn’t going to happen. It’s happening, but it’s happening in a much more magnificent way than we could have ever dreamed of.
Hannah not only goes on to have one child; she goes on to have Samuel, her son who becomes the first prophet of Israel, and God blesses her with four more children.
The Words that encourage me are “They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up on wings like eagles.” Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
Tomorrow let’s talk about celebrating. Please pass on this reflection to others who are waiting on the Lord to answer their prayers.
Remember, as you go about your day, that God can answer your prayers on a level much greater than you could have dreamed.
