b moments

This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.

Scripture reference: Galatians 2:21 (NLT)

Today I am reminding myself that I cannot earn God’s Love and Grace.

If there’s any time of the year that I find challenging to keep up with my normal routine, it’s the summertime.  For one, I surely fall off my eating routine.  I also usually travel more during the summer months, so I will sometimes miss Sunday church services.  My weekly Bible study sessions end up by the way side as I scramble my travels and my various to-do-lists.

In the middle of all this my mind goes right to the guilt and the bargaining. “I need to get back on track. I need to get back in His good graces.” And then I have to stop, pinch myself and say, “Silly me. What He has for me I cannot earn. His grace and love are unconditional.”

When I turn to the Scriptures, I think about when the Jewish people were under heavy Roman oppression. They wanted to be delivered by a messiah. They thought if only they could keep the Sabbath for four consecutive weeks, they might be delivered from their suffering. But the Mosaic law was so difficult at that time, it was tough to keep it for even a single day.

There is no question that Christ was sent to us as a Loving Gift, and not as a reward for good behavior. We could never have earned it. I will never keep a perfect Bible Study attendance. The Jewish people could never keep the Sabbath without error for four consecutive weeks. And God knows this.

The Words that I use to teach me are, “I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.” Galatians 2:21 (NLT)

So today, remember that you can’t earn God’s grace. You already have it.
