This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.

Scripture reference: Matthew 6:6 (ESV)

Today I am thinking about laying the foundation for a new season.  Summer is winding down and the back-to-school efforts are in full swing. Even though I’m no longer in school, this time of the year always feels like a time to learn something new, or to take on a new project.

In order to shift from my “rest on my laurels” mode which is what I usually feel during the summer months to a more purposeful mode, I must first seek to be in a deeper place with God. Put another way – if I want to go higher, I must first go deeper.

When I study the Scriptures, I notice how Jesus goes deeper to go higher. Specifically, in the Gospels Jesus spends a lot of time teaching and healing, but if we look closer we can also see a pattern.

Jesus typically taught, healed and then withdrew to the wilderness to be in deeper communion with God. This pattern is repeated over and over again – He taught…He healed…He withdrew to some remote area to be with God again.

What we can draw from this is that the effectiveness of His work was directly linked with His communion with the Father. Communion with God is the foundation of all other actions.

The Words that teach us are, “But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:6 (ESV)

Please share this reflection with others and encourage them in their endeavors as well!

So today, go deeper in your communion with God and go higher in your endeavors.
