No Longer Waiting for the Phone to Ring

B Moments, waiting

This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.

Scripture reference: Psalm 37:5 (ESV)

Today I am thinking about why I am no longer waiting for my phone to ring. I’m sure we can all relate to those periods of time when we are waiting on the outcome of something. This often involves waiting for a phone to ring. Maybe we’ve applied for a new job; we’re waiting to find out if we’ve been hired or not. Or perhaps we’ve taken a medical test and we’re waiting for the doctor’s follow-up call.

Whatever the specifics, the idea boils down to being in a waiting period. We can’t hurry anything up and we can’t know before it happens. I remember in the early days of watching the telephone and hoping that if I watched it long enough it would ring. I can clearly recall those days of waiting so impatiently for the phone to ring that I’d pick it up just to see if it still had a dial tone.  Ironically, I’ve since learned that the moment when I forget to focus on willing the phone to ring is the moment it will usually ring.

The other day I was talking on the phone with a girlfriend. I realized that I was diverting my thoughts and energy again, as if I was trying to will my phone to ring. It became another enlightening moment for me.

This is when I realized in that moment: I am on God’s train which means my life is on a purposeful track.  Therefore, it really doesn’t matter whether this person calls me back or not.  In other words, God’s Promises will be fulfilled in my life with or without this person’s call.  All I need to do is stay on God’s train by continuing to move forward.

I use these few words to inspire me and to keep me on course, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and He will act.” Psalm 37:5 (ESV)

Please share this reflection with others as they also desire to be inspired.

So today, release any preoccupation you may have and stay on God’s train.
