This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.

Scripture reference: James 1:22 (NLT)

Today I am thinking about how our words can be put to the test through action. I was reading in the Book of Ezra recently and was struck by how clear this is in Ezra’s testimony.

Ezra was collecting treasures for the Temple of God. He arranged a caravan of several hundred Levites and priests to help him safely deliver these treasures.  However, even though he had a pretty sizable caravan, he was still concerned about being attacked by enemies since their journey was a 4-month long journey.

The king at the time was considered a pagan, and Ezra had already testified before this king that, “Our God protects all those who worship him.” But now with this risky 4-month long journey that included all of these people’s families and children, Ezra’s words about what God did for those who worshiped Him were being tested.

Ezra was faced with a choice. He could either panic and turn to the king and say something to the effect – “I may need some of your horsemen and soldiers to travel with us just in case God doesn’t protect us.”

Or, Ezra could turn to God and seek protection solely from Him, and allow his words to be backed up by his actions.

Ezra did just that. He turned to God. He ordered the entire caravan to pray and fast before Him and they arrived safely at their destination four months later. In fact the Scriptures specifically say they departed on April 8th and arrived on August 4th.

The Words that I use to teach me are, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only.” James 1:22  (ESV)

Please share this reflection with others as they also desire to be inspired.

So today, back up your talk and put your faith in action.
