The Power of Jesus’ Protection

Today I am reminding you about the power of Jesus’ protection.

As today is Veteran’s Day, a day when we honor those who went above and beyond to protect and to serve, this day reminds me about the ultimate protection we have in Christ.

In ancient times, sheep would stay in a sheepfold—a stone corral with a very narrow opening. After all the sheep were inside, the shepherd would physically lay across the opening, using his body to form a gate since the sheepfold had no door. Nothing could enter or exit the fold without the shepherd knowing about it.

The Scriptures teach us that the shepherd knew when his sheep needed him, or when one of them had gone astray, because he guarded the fold in this very special way.

That’s the image that I have for us today. Imagine the covering and protection a shepherd provides for his flock. Thanks to Jesus, you have that same type of protection. Nothing can get to you and nothing can harm you because Jesus is right there at the gateway to guard you.

Cling to that image for a moment. Imagine that protection going before you and following you and surrounding you. As you do so, remember these words: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep.” John 10:11 (ESV)
