This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Proverbs 17:22 (NLT)
Today, I am reminding myself of the value of laughter. I have a girlfriend named Michelle. We’ve been friends since I was fourteen. Michelle can make me laugh to the point that my soul laughs. She makes me laugh to the point that if I’m in a business setting, I can’t even look her way because I might burst into laughter.
Sometimes, when I’m traveling back home, I get so excited because I know my soul will get a good laugh. We will have such a wonderful time that I end up laughing to myself weeks later. Even in the presence of others, I will chuckle to myself as I am recalling one of our silly moments. This is all happening while others are asking – “What’s so funny?”
What I’ve realized is that I can become so focused on the daily grind that I don’t take enough time to laugh . Solomon teaches us about the importance of laughter and being of good cheer; it is truly medicine for the soul.
When I feel like I’ve had a good laugh, I feel a sense of relief. Laughter has also gotten me through grief and pain. It just starts with a smile.
The Words that encourage me are, “A cheerful heart is good medicine but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” Proverbs 17:22 (NLT)
Tomorrow, let’s talk about false prophets. Please share this reflection and good cheer with someone you love today, or even a perfect stranger.
Meanwhile, today, treat your own spirit to a good, wholesome laugh!
