Why Do You Want to Do It?

This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.

Today I want you to know that eventually your true intentions will be revealed.

Recently we talked about how God knows when your heart changes and when it doesn’t. It’s the classic situation of just going through the motions. This was surely the case for Simon the magician.

Simon lived in Samaria and was highly regarded among his people. They saw this magician as having the power of God, and they often referred to him as great.

Yet when Phillip arrived in Samaria, he began teaching the gospel, and many were drawn to his teachings. When Phillip extended the offer to be baptized, many Samaritans accepted his offer.

What’s interesting is that even Simon the magician chose to be baptized and to follow Phillip. Yet when this same magician witnessed the power of the Holy Spirit, he wanted to buy it so he could profit from it. On the surface, it might have seemed that Simon had changed, but time would soon reveal his truest intentions.

Sometimes we spend a lot of time considering what we want to do, but we neglect to ask ourselves why we really want to do something. Answering why you want to do something will get at the heart of your truest intentions.
