This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Psalm 27:1 (NIV)
Today, I am thinking about the fact that when true power is on my side, there is no need to roar. I feel like I can finally check the box to this lesson being learned. As a young woman, I would often seek the approval of others. When I didn’t receive their approval, I would sink all my efforts into proving them wrong. Most often, I would not do this quietly.
I liken this to the “small dog/big dog” analogy. If you didn’t validate me, then you would hear my roar in a sense. I wouldn’t let go until I felt like you understood my point. The small dog behaves similarly. He will thrash around, barking loudly, trying to appear more threatening than he is. Whereas the big dog only needs to stand up, and be who he is.
What I find in this big dog/small dog analogy, is that the shift takes place in us when you really understand who your Owner is. When you begin to grow in your faith and become grounded in the Word, you can be who God has called you to be, and other people’s validation becomes meaningless. It’s safe to say that I have finally learned this lesson; albeit painstakingly, I have learned it nonetheless.
The Words that inspire me are, “The Lord is the stronghold of my life. Of whom shall I fear?” Psalms 27:1
Tomorrow, let’s talk about treasured times. Please share this reflection with others as they progress in their own journeys.
So today, walk authentically in your own life, and let that be your roar.
