I recently found myself in a situation where I believed I had to summon deep, unwavering faith to see God move. I leaned into that belief—thinking the outcome depended entirely on my ability to believe hard enough, pray long enough, or trust fiercely enough.
But then I was reminded of a truth that shifted my thinking: Grace is not a reward. It’s a gift.
I thought of the hemorrhaging woman in Matthew 9, and how Jesus said, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.” That verse always inspired me, yet I’ve also wondered—what about all the people Jesus healed who never demonstrated any faith at all? As my friend Skye Jethani pointed out, many were healed simply because Jesus chose to heal them. No conditions. No prerequisites.
It wasn’t about their faith. Instead, it was all about His love.
That truth unsettled me in the best way. Because it meant I didn’t need to earn my miracle. I just needed to receive it.
Grace reminds us: we are loved beyond measure, not because we always believe boldly—but because He always acts graciously.
As you think about that, hold onto these words: “For by grace you have been saved…this is not your own doing; it is a gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
