This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Psalm 144:2 (NIV)
Today, I am thinking about how God is our rock and our refuge.
In recent days, my heart has been aching for my fellow citizens who have had to endure some of the most catastrophic storms in this country’s history. In fact, just a short time ago, I was listening to a woman give an account of the devastation Hurricane Irma caused when it slammed into the island of Anguilla. She explained that many of their tallest buildings had been leveled along with many of their schools, the major hospital and the police station.
Then, I heard the crackling in her voice as she talked about the church most of the people on the island attended. It had been built in the 1800s, and it too had been destroyed by the storm.
Her story reminded me of the way the Israelites traveled to the temple in Jerusalem to be in the Lord’s presence. Sometimes, they would travel great distances just to worship God in this specific sacred temple.
However, in the New Testament it was discovered that we do not need to encounter God by traveling to a temple to dwell in His presence. Instead, the Scriptures told of the good news that the Lord doesn’t dwell in buildings per se, but that He dwells within us through the presence of His spirit.
Let us remember that despite the loss of physical buildings, God is still our rock and our refuge, and He is as close as our next breath. Today especially, cling to these words: “He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge.” Psalm 144:2 (NIV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, remember who your real rock is.
