Some stories stop you in your tracks. Recently, we all learned about Alex Pretti — the man in Minnesota who stepped in when he saw a woman being shoved to the ground. He didn’t know her, and he didn’t pause to calculate the risk. He simply moved toward danger to shield someone who needed help. And in doing so, he lost his life.
It’s easy to read a story like that and think, I could never do something so heroic. But modern-day shepherding doesn’t always look like stepping into harm’s way. Sometimes it’s speaking up when silence feels safer. Or, noticing someone who feels unseen.
Every act of protection, compassion, and courage echoes the heart of the One who laid down His life for us. May we carry that kind of love into the world today.
As you reflect on that, remember these words — “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” John 10:11 (ESV)
