Scripture references: Philippians 3:14 (ESV)
As the year draws to a close, the word goal seems to echo everywhere—finishing what we started or setting new intentions for the year ahead. The Apostle Paul reminds us that true goals are not about tallying achievements but about pressing forward with intention and purpose.
Paul practiced two disciplines: he released the past, refusing to dwell on failures or missed opportunities, and he leaned into the future, straining toward what God had set before him. He did not linger on the days when he was Saul; he confessed, received grace, and moved forward as Paul.
So whether you’re striving to complete this year’s goals or setting new ones, let go of what is behind and press on toward what lies ahead.
As you reflect on that, remember these words — “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14 (ESV)
