Scripture reference: Psalm 51:10 (ESV)

Transcription:

God knows when your heart changes—and when it doesn’t. This was indeed the case with Simon, the magician. Simon lived in Samaria and was highly regarded among his people as having the power of God, and they often referred to him as great.

When Philip arrived in Samaria, he began teaching the gospel, and many Samaritans were drawn to his teachings.  They watched with awe as the Holy Spirit empowered him to draw out unclean spirits and heal the lame.  Many accepted Philip’s offer to baptize them, even the magician Simon.

When Simon saw the power of the Holy Spirit, he offered silver coins to buy it. He was less interested in the Holy Spirit and more interested in profiting from it.

Simon may have appeared to change, but his heart had not changed.  There is no fooling God — he knows when your heart changes and when it doesn’t.

As you think about that, remember these words: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10 (ESV)
