This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

Today I am thinking about those times when bad things seem to happen to good people.
Recently I was reading about how tornadoes wreaked havoc on parts of the southeast. One couple lay still in their bed, praying, while a tornado splintered the rest of their home.
Many storm victims were already out of work due to COVID-19 and now they’re out of a home too. Some of these residents may feel like, “We’re good, God-fearing people, but bad things keep happening to us.”
When I look to the Scriptures for answers, I look no further than the story of Job. Job was a man of great character and wealth and always turned away from evil. Yet one day, Satan told God that Job was faithful only because God had blessed him with so much.
So, God allowed Satan to take away Job’s possessions, his children, and his good health. However, even under these horrific conditions, where Job had no answers, he still refused to curse God.
The recent storm victims likely have no answers too. First they lost their income, and now when everyone is sheltering in place, they have no shelter.
What Job teaches us is that he remained faithful to God even when it may have felt like God wasn’t faithful to him. Satan works hard to have us give up, to turn on God, just like he wanted Job to do. Job’s life teaches us to stay the course until God does a new thing, restoring things better than before.
As you think about that, remember these words: ““Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
