This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Isaiah 65:24 (ESV)
Today, I am thinking about how we can’t beat God giving.
This week, I’ve been thinking about Hannah’s story. Hannah was a barren woman who had been praying to God for years, asking Him to bless her with a child. She even made a vow to God that if He blessed her with a son, she would give him back to God as His servant, and he would grow up in the house of the priest Eli.
After many years, God blessed Hannah with a son, and as soon as he was weaned, Hannah followed through on her vow. She brought the child to the tabernacle to live with the priest.
What I noticed when I read the story is that in addition to sacrificing her son, Hannah also brought a young bull to sacrifice to the Lord. She was so grateful for what God had done for her that she wanted to go above and beyond to express her gratitude to Him. She wanted Him to know that she knew her son came straight from Him.
However, if there’s one thing I’ve realized it is that we can’t beat God giving. As soon as we go above and beyond for Him, He does it even more for us. For example, Hannah’s first son, Samuel, went on to become the first prophet of Israel, and God went on to bless Hannah with six more children.
Therefore, lift someone else’s spirit who needs to be reminded of God’s goodness rather than trying to outdo Him by giving. As you do so, cling to these words: “Before they call, I will answer; while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” Isaiah 65:24 (ESV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, remember that you can’t beat God giving.
