Scripture reference: Galatians 2:21 (NLT)
Transcription:
Christ came as our redeemer and was sent to us as a loving gift—not as a reward for good behavior. This idea is the perfect reminder as we celebrate Advent, a season filled with a spirit of expectation.
As I think about this special season, I think about the Jewish people who lived before Christ came and what they longed for. These people were under heavy Roman oppression, and they wanted badly to be delivered by a Messiah.
However, they thought this could only be earned by keeping the Sabbath for four consecutive weeks. The problem for them was that the Mosaic law was difficult to honor for a day, much less four weeks. Therefore, they lived with unfulfilled expectations.
Yet, today, we can rejoice because Christ did come, and His grace, not laws, covers us.
So, as you think about that, remember these words: “…For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no reason for Christ to die.” Galatians 2:21 (NLT)
