Covered by Grace, Not Laws

This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.

Scripture reference: Galatians 2:21 (NLT)

Transcription:

Today I want you to know that you are covered by God’s grace– not by laws.

Christ came as our redeemer and was sent to us as a loving gift—not as a reward for good behavior. We could never earn this kind of love no matter what we did.

This idea is the perfect reminder as we celebrate Advent which is a term derived from the Latin word meaning “coming.” The Advent season is filled with a spirit of expectation.

As I think about this special season, I think about the Jewish people who lived before Christ came and what they longed for. These people were under heavy Roman oppression, and they wanted badly to be delivered by a Messiah.

However, they thought this was something that could only be earned. They thought the Messiah would come only if they could keep the Sabbath for four consecutive weeks. The problem for them was that the Mosaic law was so difficult at that time that it was tough to honor this law for even a single day, much less four consecutive weeks. Therefore, they lived with unfulfilled expectations. Yet, today, I am rejoicing because Christ did come.

So, as you think about that, hold onto these words:

“I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no reason for Christ to die.” Galatians 2:21 (NLT)
