This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Daniel 6:3 (ESV)
Today, I am thinking about the importance of being excellent in the small things.
I had this thought when I was at Steve Pemberton’s book signing, the author of A Chance in the World. One of the things he said during the event was that we can strive so much sometimes for what we believe is significant in life, but it is also important to be excellent in the small things we do.
When I look to the Scriptures, I reflect on Daniel’s life. We know that Daniel had several major, or significant, instances in his life where his faith was tested.
Daniel had to make a choice about whether or not he would allow his name to be changed, and whether or not he would worship the king’s idol or risk death. Then, of course, there was the ultimate test that Daniel endured in the lion’s den.
On top of these tests though, Daniel also demonstrated an excellent commitment in his daily life, which was reflected in his prayer and in his diet.
Sometimes, we can be so focused on the significant that we overlook the insignificant. However, that is exactly what God really clings to. It is all of those things that seem insignificant. In other words, He wants to know that He can trust us with the small before He shows us the greater.
To be encouraged the next time we want to overlook something that seems insignificant, let us cling to these words: “Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.” Daniel 6:3 (ESV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, embrace the insignificant; God is watching!
