This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV)
Today I am feeling grateful for those milestones that we don’t tend to celebrate. The other day I walked into my son’s bathroom and saw a note on his bathroom mirror he had written to himself. It read: “Don’t give up. It will be worth it.”
To put this note in context, my son is sitting for the ACT exam, a college entrance test. This time around, he’s pushing to gain a higher score. In addition to studying on the weekends, he’s also been studying before and after school.
His note of encouragement to himself spoke to me. While he’s been under our roof, he’s learned that if you want something you have to work for it. He’s also developed a sense of resiliency. He understands that if he didn’t get the result that he wanted the first time, he should simply try again.
His note also taught me something about gratitude. It taught me that I shouldn’t wait to give thanks only for the major milestones such as when my son graduates from high school, or gets accepted into the college of his dreams. Instead, I am learning that I need to celebrate those moments along the way to achieving those significant life milestones.
The Words that I will use to remind me are simply, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV)
Please share this reflection with others as they also desire to be inspired.
So today, take a moment to give thanks for those moments that lead up to you achieving those significant milestones.
