This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Isaiah 30:21 (ESV)
Today is Lundi Gras, which is the day before Mardi Gras.
As many of you know, I am from New Orleans, so the festivities have gotten me thinking about my hometown a little bit. In New Orleans, there is a common saying: “It’s not what you know, but who you know.” I’m not asserting that no other cities around the world say that, but I know that we definitely say it a lot in New Orleans.
Another way to interpret the saying is to instead ask who sent you. When I think about that phrase, “who sent you,” I think about God sending Moses to Pharaoh.
As we know, God chose Moses to entreat Pharaoh to release the Israelites from slavery. Each time that Moses implored him though, God would harden Pharaoh’s heart so he ultimately would not release the Israelites.
I believe the key here is that even though God sent Moses to see Pharaoh, God remained in control of both Moses and Pharaoh the entire time. When I translate that idea to us and our everyday lives, it becomes clear that when we are striving for a new success–a new job or a new mortgage application for a home–we should square our shoulders back and go in confidently, like God sent us. Just as God softened and hardened Pharaoh’s heart, He has that same authority over the hearts of the people that we deal with every day.
So, let us cling to these words the next time we need to be reminded that God sent us: “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:21 (ESV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, square your shoulders back and walk into that new door because God sent you.
