Scripture reference: Philippians 4:13 (ESV)
Transcription:
Tomorrow, we will celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King and the indelible mark he left on the world. Some time ago, I learned that his “I Have a Dream” speech happened when the renowned songstress, Mahalia Jackson, whispered to him on stage to go off script and talk about his dream. Even knowing by this time that his days were numbered, he trusted God at that moment and went off script, and his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech was born.
When I turn to the Scriptures, I think about when Peter went before the religious council of his day to tell them that he had healed a man in the name of Jesus Christ. Even though this council could have taken Peter’s life on the spot, he stood there before them, unscripted, and spoke from his heart.
Let us be encouraged by the bold faith of Peter and Dr. King to trust God and speak from our hearts. As you think about that, remember these words: “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 (ESV)
