This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Ephesians 6:10 (ESV)
Today, I am thinking about how God has a higher calling for our lives.
Before Jesus’ crucifixion, there was a time when he wanted to stay completely out of Judea because the Jewish leaders were plotting his death. During this time, there was a festival going on in Judea that Jesus’ brothers, who didn’t believe in him, wanted him to attend. They taunted Jesus by rudely saying he should go where his followers could see his miracles.
However, Jesus gave them a very interesting response. He said that it was not the right time for him to go to Judea, but that they could go at any time and it would not make a difference.
Jesus’ response to his brothers underscores the point that Jesus had a higher calling on his life.
This is also true for those who choose to follow Christ. What may be an acceptable action for others, may not be an acceptable action for us. This is because there is a higher calling on our lives.
Another very important part of this story is that Jesus did not give them a soft no when he refused to go to Judea. He gave them a real, matter-of-fact response.
Sometimes, we answer with a soft no because we don’t want to be too direct. Yet, this is the time when we have to take a stand and be direct. We have to stand by our faith and by God’s higher calling for us.
So the next time we need to stand firm and cling to our higher calling, let us remember these words: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:10 (ESV)
Please share this reflection because others desire to be inspired.
So today, don’t do what the masses do because there is a higher calling on your life.
