This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: John 15:7 (ESV)
Today, I am thinking about how God delights in exceeding our expectations.
Recently, I talked about Abraham’s servant and how he set out to find a wife for Abraham’s son Isaac. Due to the high stakes, the servant was very concerned about whether or not he would be able to complete the task. More specifically though, he worried if he would ever be able to find a woman who would be fit for Isaac and who would be willing to leave her family to travel to a new land to marry Isaac.
If God had answered the servant’s prayers simply on that level, the servant would have been ecstatic. Yet as the Scriptures show us, God exceeded the servant’s expectations.
The woman the servant took home to be Isaac’s wife was Rebekah. She was a beautiful woman, a virgin, and came from a good family. Not only that, but she had a good heart that the servant had witnessed for himself. When he and his camels were thirsty, Rebekah provided water for him and the camels, along with food and a place to stay.
In this way, God exceeded the servant’s prayer request on multiple levels. God blessed him in ways he couldn’t have even imagined.
From this, we should realize that God delights in fulfilling, then surpassing the hopes of His children. To remember this, cling to these words: “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” John 15:7 (ESV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, know that God delights in exceeding your expectations.
