When a situation arises that seems to completely throw us off the path we were on, it is sometimes difficult to accept. We may feel scared, anxious, or overwhelmed. We may even begin to question whether or not God is listening to our prayers. However, we need to remember that God is the one who guides our steps, and that He is leading us exactly where we need to go. So instead of worrying, trust that God is handling the situation and readying you for something great.
Here are 3 Ways to Confront Your Difficult Situation:
- Trust first, then seek understanding. When God teaches you, it is not always easy to understand His meaning. In fact, the disciples even had trouble discerning Jesus’ meaning when he used parables to instruct and guide them. So, don’t be anxious or upset when you don’t understand where God is leading you. Instead, set aside your desire for immediate understanding, and fill yourself with trust in the Lord. Just as the disciples found peace when they were able to let go of their overwhelming need to understand, you too will discover a new calm when you are able to simply trust that God’s hand in your life is leading you down the right path. Cling to these words to remember the importance of trusting the Lord: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart…and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
- Remember that God is handling it on all levels. There will be times when you pray for something significant, but it seems as though God is not answering. You may begin to believe that the Lord is not even listening. However, God is always near and is, in fact, guiding you according to His plan. To remember this, consider the fact that there are little things in your life that are lining up thanks to His hand. Although they might not seem incredibly significant, or may just be small details in your life that are coming together, know that God is the one orchestrating the success of the little things. If the Lord is able to perfectly align the tiniest circumstances in your life, it is easy to see how He controls the big picture, too. So, keep these words close to your heart to remember the way God controls the small and big picture of your life: “…casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 (ESV)
- Keep in mind that God is grooming you for greater. When you find yourself going down a path that you believe takes you off course from where you believed you were going, it can be very frustrating. During these times, you may feel that you’re in the wrong place, and begin to do everything in your power to get back to what you thought was the purpose of your life. If you find yourself thinking this way, take a moment to reflect on the fact that God’s ways are not our ways, and He might simply be preparing you for greater. For example, before David began his 40-year reign as king, God had him working with sheep in the fields. Although it is difficult for us to make the connection between being a shepherd and ruling a nation, God knew that David needed to work in the fields before he would make an effective ruler. So today, know that wherever you are, you are right where God wants you to be. Before you can succeed, He needs to groom you for greater. Cling to these words: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.” Isaiah 55:8 (ESV)
Today, turn your blues to blessings by remembering that God is guiding your steps.
“The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:9 (ESV)
