This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Proverbs 16:9 (ESV)
Today, I am thinking about how we never know what God has in store for us.
I was recently reading in the gospel of John about how God restored Lazarus’ life. As you may remember, Jesus thought fondly of Lazarus and his two sisters, Mary and Martha. In fact, it would be accurate to say that they were a very well-liked family throughout the village of Bethany. Therefore, when Lazarus died, most of the town mourned.
While Lazarus was ill, his two sisters both sent word to Jesus to ask him to come and heal Lazarus. Of course once he arrived, Lazarus had already been buried for four days.
Although I’ve read this story many times before, I made an interesting observation this time. Because Mary and Martha were so well known and liked, many Jewish people visited their home to comfort them. On the day the largest crowd visited them, Jesus ordered Lazarus to get up from the grave, and his life was fully restored. As a result, many Jewish people turned to Christ on that day.
As I read that, I suddenly understood. It is likely that when the people left their homes that morning, they left with the sole intent of comforting Mary and Martha. That was it. They didn’t realize that would be the day they would ultimately turn to Christ because they witnessed the restoration of Lazarus’ life.
The point is that we never know what a day holds, and we never know what God has in store. So let us embrace today and cling to these words: “The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:9 (ESV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, know that God has something special in store for you.
