This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: 1 Timothy 4:4 (NIV)
Today, I am thinking about how God really wants us to receive.
I had this thought as I was reading in the book of Ruth, which opens with the story of Naomi. In the story, Naomi lost her husband as well as her two beloved sons. Because of her staggering grief, Naomi decided to pack up and return to her hometown.
However, her two daughter-in-laws insisted that they return home with her so that she would not be alone. Yet Naomi had a very difficult time receiving this gesture of kindness from them because she didn’t have anything to give back to them.
Therefore, she said, “Why would you do this for me? I have nothing to give back to you in return. I cannot give you the security of another marriage.”
She thought about it and figured out that even if she got married that day and conceived that night, it still wouldn’t work. She still couldn’t give them husbands.
Naomi rationalized that unless she had something of value to give them in return, she wouldn’t really be able to accept their offer. She missed that God was covering her by His own grace, and that was all that she needed.
When we are being covered or provided for by God’s grace, there is no obligation, and there is nothing else to fulfill. All we need to do is come forward with a humble heart.
Let us cling to these words: “For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.” 1 Timothy 4:4 (NIV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, know that God wants you to receive.
