Today I am inspiring you with one surefire way to loosen the grip of fear.
While we know there are many things that can cause us to experience fear, one thing in particular is a fear of lack. It’s the overwhelming fear that we will run short and not have enough in the end. Simply put, a fear of lack can keep you up at night.
Yet here’s an important lesson the prophet Elijah taught the widow. At the time of Elijah’s visit to the widow’s home, there was a severe drought going on. However, when Elijah greeted the widow, he asked her for a cup of water and even went on to ask her for a piece of bread.
The widow did what any logical person would do. She assessed the ingredients she had to make the bread and realized there wasn’t enough. In fact, she told Elijah that she only had a handful of flour and a drop of cooking oil left.
She even confessed to Elijah that she had planned to cook this last meal for her son and herself, and then she had planned to die. Yet Elijah stopped her in her tracks and told her to cook that last meal but to bake him a loaf of bread first. He was teaching her that giving away something in the face of lack was a way to demonstrate her faith, shift the energy, and loosen the grip of fear.
When she did this, she saw that she had plenty of oil and flour to last her throughout the drought. If you’re experiencing lack today, don’t be gripped by fear; give away something first and watch your circumstances begin to shift. As you do that, remember these words: “I sought the Lord and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4 (NIV)
