Even When He Doesn’t Answer, He’s Still Working

Today I am encouraging you: When it seems God isn’t answering, know that He is working behind the scenes.

Recently we talked about how we should expect God to both hear and answer our prayers. Yet what happens when we expect Him to answer and He doesn’t? Early on in my spiritual walk it felt like God was just ignoring me. Yet I have since come to learn that God is not ignoring me; instead, He’s busy at work.

To give myself a good analogy, I began to see God’s love similar to how a mother sacrifices. Some of her sacrifices are obvious while others go unseen and unspoken. The same is true for God’s love. Sometimes His hand appears front and center. Other times, He is busy at work behind the scenes.

When we turn to the Scriptures, we see this is what the Israelites had to learn. Balak, the king of Moab, was desperately trying to save himself and his people, so he hired Balaam to curse Israel. However, God had a different plan. He actually used Balaam to bless the Israelites rather than to harm them.

Here are the two key points. First, as Balaam approached the Israelites, they had no idea they were even in danger. In other words, God was delivering them from something that they had no idea even posed a threat to them. Second, the Israelites were not in the best standing with God, yet He was still working on their behalf.

Let us be encouraged by that, and remember these words: “If we are faithless, He remains faithful–for he cannot deny himself.” 2 Timothy 2:13 (ESV)
