This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Philippians 3:13 (NIV)
Today, I am thinking about the importance of not getting stuck on our spiritual journey.
One thing I have noticed from studying the Scriptures is that certain people of God have their names changed over time. For example, Abraham started out with the name Abram, but God eventually gave him the new name, Abraham, which means “father of many nations.” Similarly, his wife, Sarai, became Sarah, meaning “princess.”
What was especially interesting to me was that their names changed after they received God’s miracle. In the case of Sarah and Abraham, their names changed following the miracle of Sarah’s pregnancy so late in life.
In other words, their own names no longer seemed fitting for where God was taking them, or for the new blessings He bestowed upon them.
This inspires me to keep pressing forward, and to keep evolving spiritually, just like Sarah and Abraham.
In my book, Blues to Blessings, the last chapter is titled “8 Suzettes Ago.” By this I mean that the way I would characterize my spiritual walk twenty years ago is vastly different from how I would characterize it today. This means that my spiritual relationship is steadily evolving, the beautiful and the ugly intertwining, creating a completely new version of myself.
Therefore, let us remember these words as we strive to move forward on our journey: “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” Philippians 3:13 (NIV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, what name best characterizes your spiritual walk?
