This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
Today, I am thinking about tough choices.
Earlier this week, I talked about the graduate, the path to more, and how our choices determine our destination.
Yet today, I’m thinking about the proverbial fork in the road where we must make a difficult choice.
I can readily recall those situations when I wished a decision could be made for me, rather than taking on the responsibility myself. However, that’s just not how life works. We need to make our own decisions, no matter how tough or frightening.
When I turn to the Scriptures, I think about the situation between King Balak and the prophet Balaam. Balaam was a respected prophet, but King Balak wanted him to help with an evil plan to curse Balak’s enemy, the Israelites. In fact, King Balak even told Balaam that he would reward him handsomely if he cursed the Israelites.
However, Balaam said that even if King Balak gave him a palace filled with silver and gold, he wouldn’t stand against the will of the Lord.
There will be times on our journey when we have to decide between a temporary reward and God’s path. Therefore, the next time we’re at this fork in the road, let us cling to these words: “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, instead of backing away from our tough choices, let’s step to them, knowing that we’re not alone.
