This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Psalm 145:3 (ESV)
Today I am thinking about my worship.
I just wrapped up the series on all the ways Jesus reveals himself to us—as the shepherd, the light, and the resurrection. This prompted me to think about how I was revealing myself to Christ through my worship.
I had this thought as I was reading about Mary and Martha, Lazarus’ two sisters, and the ways in which their worship of Jesus differed. As we know, Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Shortly thereafter, Mary and Martha threw a huge celebration dinner for Jesus.
During the party, Martha spent her time running around, trying to make sure everything was perfect for Jesus. Meanwhile, Mary was found at Jesus’ feet, listening to every word that came out of his mouth.
Eventually, Martha complained to Jesus and asked him whether or not it seemed fair that Mary spent her time sitting there while Martha had to do all the work. Jesus responded that Martha worried over the details, but that there was only one thing worth being concerned about, something that Mary had already discovered.
Mary provides a great example of real worship, and how to show Jesus that nothing but him matters. Martha was preoccupied with achieving perfection, but Mary was preoccupied with perfection himself.
The next time you’re kneeling in prayer, see yourself at the feet of Jesus and remember these words: “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised.” Psalm 145:3 (ESV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, let’s make time for real worship.
The Martha in me usually runs my show, TODAY I will yield to the Mary in me. THANKS!
