This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Proverbs 18:21 (ESV)
Today, I am thinking about how much our words matter. Recently I was on a call with a lady. In one breath she was talking about what she wanted in her life; then in the next breath, she was negatively prophesying into her own life about how these things could not happen. She wants to be married; she wants a husband, but would immediately complain that there were no eligible men in her city. She also talked at length about illness. She was explaining how illnesses would typically plague her family members when they reached a certain age. She was already anticipating the negative to occur in her life.
All I could do is have compassion for her, because she didn’t realize the power of her own tongue.
I tried to slip in, “God is always in control,” and “The final say always rests with God.” It went right over her head. She was simply unaware that her words have tremendous power — the power to attract and to repulse things into her life. This is why it is so important to consciously choose our words, because they really do matter.
I use this one little adage, “There’s a difference between the facts and the truth about a situation.” The facts of the situation may tell us one thing, but the truth of God’s Word will always supersede the facts of my situation.” This is why I sincerely make a conscious effort to avoid negative thinking or speaking. I do this, because I have learned that words really do matter.
The Words that teach me are, “Death and Life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21 (ESV)
Tomorrow, let’s talk about laughter. Please share this reflection with those around you, and speak light and life into their lives.
Today, I will give power and energy to what I want in life, and not to those things that will stop me.
