Scripture reference: Luke 6:35 (NLT)
Transcription:
Sometimes God will ask you to do something that feels easier said than done. For example, Luke 6:28 asks you to “pray for the happiness of those who curse you.” The first time I read this verse, I was stuck on the word “happiness.”
If a person intentionally hurts me, I can pray for their healing because, as the saying goes, “hurt people hurt people.” Notice though that Jesus takes it one step further. He asks that we pray for their happiness which can feel easier said than done, especially in the heat of the moment.
I’m sure there are times when you’ve prayed for those who’ve caused you harm and moved on. Then there are those times when your capacity to tolerate additional pain is limited. Yet when you do, you are acting like a child of the Most High.
Whose happiness do you need to pray for today? As you think about that, remember these words — “Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High.” Luke 6:35 (NLT)
