This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
Today, I am thinking about how Jesus doesn’t want you to be burdened.
Recently, we talked about the time when Jesus chased the money changers and various animals out of the temple because it had become more of a marketplace than a place of worship. We specifically looked at it from the operations perspective, but today we’re looking at the individual.
During these times, fees were paid calculated on a percentage of a person’s daily wage. Imagine a family first having to endure the cost of traveling to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. Then, they had to set aside their tithes and their temple tax. On top of that, they were burdened with the exchange of their currency, which was a tax on top of a tax.
Even worse, if they wanted to bring an animal to sacrifice, they had to pay for that and then risk having the temple tell them that the animal was not good enough. If the temple deemed the animal unacceptable, they also had to pay for an even more ideal animal. They were burdened in so many ways.
Sometimes, we can carry around burdens of financial matters or relationships, which can interfere with our worship. Jesus reminds us that he doesn’t want us to be weighed down like that. If you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, release those matters to God and cling to these words: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, release those burdens one by one.
