This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.

Scripture reference: Colossians 4:2 (ESV)

Today I want you to know how to remodel your prayers.

Recently I walked into a Praise and Worship event where I heard these lyrics: “I’m sorry when I’ve just gone through the motions. I am also sorry when I’ve come with my own agenda.” These lyrics are from the song “Nothing Else” by Cody Carnes. When I heard these words, the tears just streamed down my face because these words rang so true for me.

Lately my prayers have been all about me: Father, please provide this. Please cover me here. Please make a way there. This song beautifully reminds us that there is an opportunity to be caught up in His presence and to sit at His feet. This is something I haven’t been doing. I know better, but I haven’t been doing better. Hence all the tears.

While the Scriptures, such as Mark 11:24, teach us, “Ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you,” they also teach us that we should continually mature in our spiritual walk. The first step for me is acknowledging what I need to change.

The second step is to remodel my prayers. I liken this to the way you might remodel a room. Sometimes moving just one piece of furniture can shift the energy in the entire room. In the same way, worshiping God and giving thanks before asking can deepen your relationship with Him.

Is it time for you to remodel your prayers? As you think about that, remember these words: “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” Colossians 4:2 (ESV)
