This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: John 10:11 (ESV)
Today, I am thinking about the power of Jesus’ protection.
This week, I am reflecting on all the ways Jesus reveals himself to us. In the gospel of John, he teaches us that he is the light, the king, and the resurrection. But today, I am focusing on his role as the shepherd.
In ancient times, sheep would stay in a sheepfold—a stone corral with a very narrow opening. After all the sheep were inside, the shepherd would physically lay across the opening, using his body to form a gate since the sheepfold had no door. Nothing could enter or exit the fold without the shepherd knowing about it.
The Scriptures teach us that the shepherd knew when his sheep needed him, or when one of them had gone astray, because he guarded the fold this way.
That’s the image I have for us today. Imagine the covering and protection a shepherd provides for his flock. Thanks to Jesus, we have that same protection. Nothing can get to us and nothing can harm us because Jesus is right there at the gateway to guard us.
As we hold that image in our minds, let us also hold onto these words: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep.” John 10:11 (ESV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, feel that covering and protection, and know that Christ is your shepherd.
