This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.

Today I want to task you with stirring up something special in another person.
Today is Thanksgiving Eve, and many of us have all the burners on the stove going. We’re so focused on stirring up something good in that pot on the stove, but I want to encourage you to stir up something special in another person. Sometimes it’s only lending a listening ear or being present in a conversation rather than being preoccupied with all the details. It can also be planting seeds of inspiration and wisdom.
I have spent too many holidays stirring my pots and trying to make sure that everything is perfect that I can often overlook the purpose of the day. When I think about my own actions, I think about Mary and Martha, Lazarus’ two sisters, and the ways in which their worship of Jesus differed.
As we know, Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Shortly thereafter, Mary and Martha threw a huge celebration dinner for Jesus. During the party, Martha spent her time stirring around, trying to make sure everything was perfect for Jesus. Meanwhile, Mary was found at Jesus’ feet, listening to every word that came out of his mouth.
Eventually, Martha complained to Jesus and asked him whether or not it seemed fair that Mary spent her time sitting there while Martha spent her time stirring around, doing all the work. Jesus responded that Martha worried over the details while Mary had already discovered the right course to take.
Tune into the Blues to Blessings YouTube channel today and watch me in the kitchen, stirring my own pot and reflecting on those times when I stress too much over the details. Before you do that, hold onto these words: “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up…” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (ESV)
