This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: 1 Peter 5:3 (ESV)
Today, I am thinking about the B Moments listeners even more than usual. If I had to profile those who listen to B Moments, I would define them as the glue.
In other words, you all are the ones who are called upon to hold things together. You are likely the glue both at home and at work. Those around you seek your guidance, your counsel, and your support. You’re accustomed to taking the lead even when you’re not in a leadership role, directing and orchestrating things on behalf of others.
However, true leadership is more that directing and orchestrating. There is a difference between a leader and a person who just wants to be in control.
True leadership is leading by example in a way that causes those around you to be so impacted by your positive example that they are inspired to change themselves.
A perfect illustration of leading by example was when Christ washed the feet of his disciples. He ultimately wanted them to wash each other’s feet, but he didn’t direct them to do that. Instead, he humbled himself and washed their feet first.
This creates a question for those of us who see ourselves as the glue. Are others being inspired to grow and change from our leadership, or are they just looking for us to take control every time, relying on us to put out one fire after the next?
The next time we need to be reminded of the importance of leading by example, let us cling to these words: “Not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.” 1 Peter 5:3 (ESV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, if you’re the glue, allow some of your positive ways to stick to others.
