This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV)
Today, I am pondering how well I take care of myself.
I was recently listening to an HBO documentary on the well-known billionaire investor, Warren Buffett. In the documentary, he asks a small classroom of students to imagine how they would take care of a car if they could only purchase one car during their lifetime.
As I thought about the question myself, I realized I would probably drive it daily with care, wouldn’t miss any maintenance checks, and would even take extra care of the interior.
Warren Buffett then concluded his line of questioning by saying that although you will probably have more than one car in your lifetime, you will never have more than one body.
This prompted me to think about how I take care of my own body. I recognize that I do not always treat my body with kindness and respect.
I am more motivated to take care of my body when it is in preparation for an event, or when summer is right around the corner, rather than caring for myself every day as Christ would.
When I dishonor my body in any way–through food, stress, or lack of rest–I am damaging the one and only vehicle I have to be used in God’s service. However, while I don’t want to misuse my body in this way, sometimes old habits kick in and I do.
So if, from time to time, you find yourself in a similar place, let us be reminded of these words: “You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, be inspired to love yourself as a way of living.
