This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Luke 19:10 (NLT)
Today I am thinking about forgiveness, but I am looking at it from a different angle. We’re all familiar with the common sayings about forgiveness such as – “Forgiveness is less about the other person and more about oneself, because until we forgive we cannot be totally free.”
However, today, I am thinking about what is possible in that other person’s life once we forgive them. In other words, the transforming power inherent in forgiveness.
When I turn to the Scriptures I look at the life of Mary Magdalene. We know that she had a sinful past. She was a deeply afflicted woman. In Luke 8:2 Jesus cast seven evil spirits out from her. He looked beyond her past and expressed forgiveness of her sins. He showed compassion towards her. As a result Mary Magdalene became a devoted follower of Christ.
When everyone else had abandoned Jesus at the site of the crucifixion she was there standing by the cross. When He rose from the dead, Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene before the others. She was ultimately revered by other saints and other believers. Forgiveness transformed Mary Magdalene from a lowly, crawling caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly soaring up on wings of grace.
It’s amazing what is possible in another person’s life once forgiveness has been given to them.
The Words that I use to remind me of the precious power of forgiveness are, “For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” Luke 19:10 (NLT)
Please share this reflection with others as they also desire to be inspired.
So today, is there someone in your life who could be transformed if you forgave them?
