Scripture reference: Psalm 139:14 (ESV)
Transcription:
Before David defeated Goliath, he told King Saul that he wasn’t afraid and believed he could defeat Goliath. Saul didn’t believe him initially, but David insisted.
Finally, Saul gave in and immediately began preparing David for battle by giving him a sword, a bronze helmet, and a protective garment made of metal rings known as a coat of mail.
David tried these things on for size but was soon very uncomfortable and told Saul that he couldn’t go into battle with them. He confessed that when he watched over his father’s sheep, and a lion or bear came to steal a lamb, he just used his bare hands to club and attack the animal.
He was telling Saul that he would instead go into battle as his authentic self, using the skills and gifts that God blessed him with rather than rely on Saul’s extra armor. Ultimately, we see that David was victorious using what God gave him.
As you think about that, remember these words: “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14 (ESV)
