Scripture reference: Luke 5:15-16 (ESV)

In the Gospel of Mark, we learn how Jesus prioritized going off to a solitary place and retreating in prayer. Despite the crowds searching for Him (Mark 1:37), He intentionally withdrew to be alone with His Father. This practice of withdrawal is crucial for us as well. Knowing when it’s time to step back, take care of ourselves, heal, and find solitude with God is a profound act of self-care and spiritual renewal.
Jesus withdrew in times of grief, such as when He learned of John the Baptist’s beheading (Matthew 14:13). He also sought solitude with God in preparation for miraculous events, like the feeding of 4,000. Even in His final hours, as He anguished in Gethsemane, He prayed fervently (Matthew 14:32).
Let’s follow His example, allowing ourselves the space to withdraw, reconnect, and find strength in our Heavenly Father.
As you think about that, remember these words: “…great crowds gathered to hear him and to be healed…but he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.” Luke 5:15-16 (ESV)
