This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: 1 John 4:11 (ESV)
Today, I am thinking about the importance of showing love and kindness to someone—not because they deserve it, but because they need it.
Sometimes, when we are making a decision about whether to be kind and loving to one another, we get in our heads and base our decision on whether we believe the person is deserving or not. However, I think we should instead get into our hearts and love each other without conditions, just as God has asked us to do.
When I turn to the Scriptures, I think about Rebekah’s story. In the Scriptures, Abraham sent his servant to find a wife for his son Isaac, so the servant loaded up ten camels with all sorts of gifts for this future wife.
Yet when the servant reached Rebekah’s town, he was exhausted. He was thirsty and hungry, and his camels were thirsty as well. So, Rebekah not only provided water for the servant, but she also offered to provide water for all ten of his camels.
Rebekah did not know the servant from Adam. She did not make a judgment call about whether she should be kind to him based on his merit. Instead, she knew he needed help and love, and she responded to him in that moment.
Therefore, I would encourage us to reach beyond loving just those in our circle today, and to extend love and kindness to all those who need it. As we do so, let us cling to these words: “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:11 (ESV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, go love someone.
