This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: John 4:24 (NLT)
Today, I have a question for us. I’m asking if we are worshiping in spirit and in truth.
I had this thought because I am still reading and reflecting on the Scripture about when Jesus had an exchange with a Samaritan woman at a well.
Initially, this woman thought Jesus was a prophet and that made her inclined to ask him about many things. One of the questions that she asked was why Jews insisted that Jerusalem was the only place to worship while Samaritans claimed the correct place was at Mt Gerizim where their ancestors worshiped.
Jesus replied that the truth was that the time was coming when it would no longer matter whether one worshiped the Father here or there because true believers worship the Father in spirit and in truth.
After reading that passage, I began to reflect on my practices because there are so many various notions that we come up with as to who’s actually worshiping genuinely and who’s not. Sometimes we size people up in very petty ways. In fact, I have been to a number of churches where something as simple as a person’s dress makes others believe they know about the quality of that person’s worship.
However, in this passage, Jesus says that that’s immaterial to him. He’s more interested that when we do come to worship, we do so in truth and in spirit. So the next time we are entering into a place of worship, let us be reminded of these words: “For God is Spirit, so those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24 (NLT)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, wherever you worship, whenever you worship, let it be in spirit and in truth.
