This is our B moment. Our moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.
Scripture reference: Psalm 37:4 (ESV)
Today, I am thinking about how we shouldn’t be so quick to ask God to remove certain desires from our hearts.
For example, I have two girlfriends who are single. One girlfriend is quite content with being single. For her, life is good.
However, my other single girlfriend is not as content with her reality; she truly does want to remarry. In fact, we were talking the other day, and she asked me why God wouldn’t just remove that yearning from her heart if He isn’t going to bless her with a partner in life.
It was then that I reminded her of Hannah, whose heart ached for a child. As the Scriptures show us, this went on year after year. Hannah’s heart ached so much that she would even stop eating at certain periods of time.
Yet even after this, Hannah never asked God to remove her desire to have a child. Instead, she worshiped God and told Him how she would become even closer to Him if He were to honor this yearning in her heart.
We, of course, know how Hannah’s story ends. She was blessed with five children, not just one. In other words, it would have been a mistake for Hannah to ask God to remove her desire.
The next time you think you’re willing to let go of your heart’s yearning, cling to these words. “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4 (ESV)
Please share this reflection as others desire to be inspired.
So today, stay true to your heart’s desire.
