Scripture reference: Matthew 19:26

Life can often feel like a rollercoaster, especially when you start strong, believing that God has called you to do meaningful work. But, your journey can be filled with highs and lows when influenced by the 4 Ds. Recall the great builder Nehemiah’s story, who never let these 4 Ds derail his calling from God.
- Doubt: Nehemiah never doubted that God had called him for a purpose. Despite the chaos around him, he knew his work was meaningful and divinely inspired.
- Discounting: Nehemiah never discounted the idea that God was working through him to achieve great things. He restored more than two miles of Jerusalem’s walls in just 52 days, a feat only possible through God’s power.
- Distraction: Nehemiah never let distractions sidetrack him from his mission, regardless of their source. When enemies tried to lure him away, he responded, “I am engaged in a great work, so I can’t come” (Nehemiah 6:3). He simply addressed their request and continued his work.
- Dissuasion: Despite facing external threats and internal conflicts, Nehemiah never allowed any circumstance to dissuade him from God’s calling.
Advent is a good time to reflect on and adopt Nehemiah’s mindset as you anticipate the fulfillment of God’s purpose and promises in your life.
As you reflect on that, remember these words: “…Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” Matthew 19:26
