Scripture reference: Proverbs 18:21

When I need to disallow negative thinking, I remind myself of the wealthy Shumanite woman who watched her words at every turn. Even though we’ve heard her story a number of times before, she is a beautiful reminder of what is possible when we are intentional about our thoughts and words.
When her son, who had been working outdoors, became ill, a servant brought him to her, and she held him on her lap. But around noontime, the Scriptures say he died.
Without hesitation, the woman promptly laid her son’s body on the bed and immediately called for a donkey so that she could travel to see the great prophet, Elisha. Her husband questioned her about going at that particular time. She simply replied that all would be well.
As she was traveling to see Elisha, he saw her in the distance and sent his servant to meet her. When the servant greeted her, he specifically asked her, “Is everything well with you? With your husband? With your son?”
Her reply was, “It is well.” The woman knew without question that her words mattered.
As you reflect on that, remember these words: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” Proverbs 18:21
